On Sunday January 7th, 2024 Flagstaff, AZ had a one foot snowstorm. It began snowing early in the morning and didn't stop until nearly sundown. It by far is not the largest single day snow event but it added enough snow to the previous storm's five inches to allow us a lovely jaunt into the forest on our snowshoes. Flagstaff, Arizona is one of the snowiest cities in the United States, with an average annual snowfall of 102 inches. The snowfall is heaviest in January and February.
This first series of images of of my wife, Ellen, stopping to look up just as a gust of wind blew so much snow out of the trees that she disappeared!
Once we got out of the trees and into the open the lighting was beautiful. The wind would whip the snow out of the trees and create a fog like feel. You could see the snow being carried through the air.
The best thing about this whole adventure is that it is only a five minute walk from our house.
The clouds were building if you looked in one direction and the sun was trying to pop out in the other. The sun eventually lost out to heavy gray clouds and it began snowing agian.
