Para...chutes and gliders

This week I'm continuing with the transportation theme Air. I was going to make it about hot air balloons. However, I have SO many images that need to be gone through that I got overwhelmed and settled for the Parachutes/Paragliders theme instead. Enjoy.

While out photographing the red rocks of Sedona on an Arizona Highways Photography workshop in October of 2021 we were treated to this display of daring and adventure. No idea who they were or where they came from but they were sure fun to watch.

This next set of images aren't the greatest as they were taken with my smartphone. My wife and I were having tea and coffee on Lone Rock beach at Lake Powell while camping one morning in September of 2023. We heard the roar of an engine and turned to find this guy coming REALLY close to us and flying along the beach.

The third paraglider installment happened in February 2024 while camping at Lost Dutchman State Park east of Phoenix. Two afternoons in a row, we're guessing the same guy, made a late afternoon showing with his glider. He had quite the acrobatic moves as he gyrated around in the sky. At times he was chill then suddenly he'd be ABOVE his parachute! We kept expecting him to fall out of the sky, plunge into his chute and land with a crash onto the ground. At other times it looked as though he was going to slam into the ground or the mountain sides.Thankfully, this too never happened.

The final set of images are from pre-game festivities at the Arizona Bowl at University of Arizona stadium in Tucson in December of 2023. Again, cell phone shots so not the greatest quality. These guys jumped out of an airplane and landed on the field.

In 2019, at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, these guys helped launch the Festival.

That's it for the para theme. I hope you enjoyed it. Happy shooting!
