The other day I took the long lens out to our local wetlands to see what was up. Per usual, it did not disappoint. The red-winged black birds were out in force.
The American Coots were getting their exercise with wind sprints across the water.
Dragonflies are always a tricky subject. They fly so fast and are so erratic that they are difficult to focus on. I love it when they land on something to take a breather. The one above...pure luck?
Mama Coot wasn't taking any sass on that warm, sunny morning. Whatever Junior had to say was met with a swift reprimand to the head!
The dinosaur babies were out in full force, squawking, swimming, diving, eating. These little Coots are in their awkward adolescent phase. They are no longer in the ugly cute phase of fluffy red and black feathers.
This crew of Mama Ruddy Duck and her brood were fun to watch. She tried her darndest to keep an eye on them but they kept swimming off, diving under, coming up tangled in the "sea weed", and flapping their...nubs.
I hope this encourages you to get out and visit your local birding spot and see what our feathered friends are up to!
