January began with some sketchy snowboarding at Snow Bowl. Sketchy meaning we hadn't had any snow since late October/early November and were recreating on about a 14 inch base of mostly man made snow. Our good friends Dorea and her son Aven came up and we made the best of it. It's always great to see them.

We then secured two nights at Dead Horse State Park but only stayed one because it was so cold. We have to remember that this is a two-season park for us (Spring and Fall). Not a dead of summer or dead of winter park due to temps. We DID get some riding in, however, and enjoyed the warm-ish daytime temps.

And first light on Mingus mountain is always beautiful.

Over MLK Weekend we went down to McDowell Mountain Regional Park near Fountain Hills for three nights. It was also windy and cold but we stuck it out. One night got to a Feels Like temp of 17 degrees. 17!!!! IN THE DESERT! I had just gotten over The Crud which I'm sure I contracted from my last 1:1 sub job. Unfortunately, Ellen was just coming down with it and wasn't able to join Sue B. and I on any of the mountain bike rides. The afternoons were nice in the warm sun.
